It is a very coveted range of wine, which has repeatedly received the prize for the best wine in the agricultural competition in Paris, and it has held this position for 5 years already. The Jura vineyard produces white, red, yellow and crémant wines. All of these types of wine are produced with different grape varieties, among which is pinot noir . Crémant is made from several different grape varieties.

Crémant du Jura and its grape varieties

French vineyards use many different grape varieties to make their wines. The Jura vineyard has a large enough area to produce the 5 types of grape varieties listed below. But first, let's talk about the different types of grape varieties and their characteristics.

Chardonnay

In the Jura and Côtes du Jura vineyards, Chardonnay represents 48% of the grape varieties in the vineyard because it is the most abundant grape variety in the county.

Because it is very widespread in France, Chardonnay grows very well on light soils, it adapts well to gravel soils and it can also be grown on stronger and heavier soils. The fact that it adapts well to a very good number of soil types is one of the advantages of this variety.

Its negative side lies in the fact that it is sensitive to coulure and millerandage. In the Jura vineyard, 1 hectare of Chardonnay grown on limestone soils produces more than 35 hectoliters of liquid . On more fertile land, the Chardonnay produced is ideal for making super-fine crémants, up to 55 hectoliters for 1 hectare of land.

Savagnin

As soon as it arrived in the region, savagnin was known as "traminer" in Germanic countries . It crosses the country's borders through Germany.

Its particularity is that it takes longer to ripen than Chardonnay, but its grape seeds are suitable for making yellow wines.

The Keychain

The name of this type of vine comes from the “trussed” aspect of the bunches of its grapes. It was first discovered in the 18th century.

To cultivate it while hoping for a substantial yield, it must be done on gravelly soils, or not very deep marls. Trousseau needs more sun than other Jura grape varieties . It makes it possible to produce wines with a purplish color, wines with a full-bodied taste and an alcoholic flavor. Wines made from Trousseau get better with age and can be kept for more than 10 years.

Poulsard

Also called peloussard, polozard, mescle or even ploussard, the cultivation of poulsard is appropriate in areas with clay soil and in marl. Even if its first appearance dates back to around 1386, Poulsard grapes make it possible to produce wines with fruity aromas. The color of the wine is light and the flavor is very low in alcohol.

Pinot Noir

It is one of the oldest grape varieties used in the Jura vineyards. It is rich enough in phenolic compounds to impart that alcoholic flavor to the wines with which they are produced. Contrary to what you may believe, Pinot Noir can also be used to produce red, rosé and white wines.

Here are the only 5 types of grape varieties grown in the Jura . Chardonnay is the most common due to its abundance and ease of cultivation.

However, one and only one grape variety can claim to be perfectly adequate for the production of a crémant and it is obviously chardonnay. It is used to produce Crémants du Jura Bancs.

To have this pink color that is sometimes found in this type of wine, Chardonnay is sometimes mixed with a black or red grape variety, including Pinot Noir, Poulsard or Trousseau.

Where and at what temperature can you taste a Crémant du Jura?

It is important to consume wine at an appropriate temperature.

As a general rule, white wines are served too chilled and red wines are served too arched. This is simply due to the wine not being slowly brought to the correct temperature.

Above all, you should not, for example, put a white wine in the freezer to cool it faster. The thermal shock could “break the wine”. It is rather advisable to allow time for the wine to reach the right temperature, by putting it in favorable conditions.

In order to take full advantage of the aromas and flavors of your wines, you must respect certain rules, in particular those related to temperature. A Crémant du Jura is ideal if it is consumed at a temperature between 5 and 7°C .

There are tasting rooms designed only to allow wine lovers to taste their favorite wines or to taste new flavors. Crémant can be enjoyed in winter as well as in spring. At the edge of a beach, during an evening with friends, you can use it to delight your palate.

If you want to offer a wine to a loved one , discover wines . Whether it's a white or rosé crémant, you will certainly find it. The wines come from an agriculture that respects the environment and the ecosystem .
