For several months, we have been working on projects that are close to our hearts. As you know for some, we launched our first cuvées in September 2019 in addition to the wines of winegrowers, then we chose to evolve to improve our offer by offering only our Oé wines in May 2020. During these 6 months of reflection , we have always tried to improve our wines, our bottles, everything from the content to the container to offer you an experience that is as respectful of the environment, your body and that of the winegrowers. In search of a 360° coherent bottle, we couldn't forget to bring back up to date the methods of yesteryear: the famous deposit .
To do this, at the initiative of our local deposit partner Rebooteille , Emilie and Thomas from the team went on site to dissect the workings of bottle washing to offer them to our partners with whom we work: restaurants, grocery stores , etc… Patience, it’s coming soon for you, Oé customers 😉
Are you ready for a topo? Let's go !
- Once the bottles have been tasted , they are collected and returned to the circuit by one of our partners. In Lyon, it is the company Rebooteille which takes care of our bottles by working for the deposit and for the reuse of glass bottles in the Ain, the Loire and the Rhône . Once collected, they are washed near Valence in Chabeuil (Rebooteille will take care of the washing after acquiring its own work tool by next year). Let's go for a ride!
- The bottles go into the washer. They are washed at 73° in water mixed with soda for 15 to 20 minutes. The mixture makes it possible to take off the label well. The soda is used in very small quantities (2%) and the bath is kept for several weeks to carry out several washing cycles (if the bottles are well pre-cleaned and that they have the right size, you can do about ten bath with the same water)
- The bottles then pass through the blower (to avoid leftover water which could be a source of bacteria development) and through the sight glass (to check that there is no glue left on the bottle, to make a final check and s make sure the bottles are clean)
Once the operation is complete, about thirty minutes later, the bottles are placed on pallets and then ready to be resold. Simple as pie in theory, but quite a technique when it comes to execution.
Finally clean and ready to be reused, the bottles are sent to our bottler in the Pierres Dorées then return to us in Lyon, at home, to once again serve restaurants, grocery stores, wine merchants and events.
Why reuse bottles rather than recycle them?
- To reduce environmental impact . By bringing the deposit up to date, we would save 75% energy, 33% water and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 79%.
- To promote local agriculture and short circuits for your purchases of wines, beers, fruit juices, compotes, yogurts, honey and jams because the deposit is local!
- To create local jobs that cannot be relocated with people in social and professional integration.
- So that producers, consumers and communities save money in the long term.
